A story from Dessel full of coincidences – yet somehow, everything fits perfectly

De Pezerik is the story of Alexander (Lex) Feyen and Leentje Verhalle. Two business owners with a passion for hospitality, great food and responsible entrepreneurship.

When Onder de Toren, a long-standing fixture in Dessel, came back on the market, Lex immediately saw the possibilities. He shared his plans with his good friend Tijs Vanneste, who was enthusiastic from the very start. One thing led to another, and just a few months later, grill restaurant De Pezerik became a reality.

A name with a truly Dessel story

The name De Pezerik refers to the nickname of the people of Dessel: “the pezeriken”. Originally, a pezerik is a hollowed-out pig’s penis, which was once used, among other things, to grease tools. But the people of Dessel wouldn’t be themselves if they hadn’t put their own twist on it: the pezerik also ended up in the soup pot, adding extra flavour to the soup.

If you look closely, you’ll actually find an authentic pezerik at the entrance to the restaurant. It belonged to Pierre and Alexander Roymans, who ran a carpentry business together in Arendonk. Alexander was Lex’s grandfather, and Lex was named after him. And so, the circle comes beautifully back around.

Our very own gin

We also like to keep things special when it comes to what’s in your glass. Especially for De Pezerik, we had our very own gin created: spicy, with a peppery note and the perfect match for dishes from the grill. Naturally, it was thoroughly tasted and approved by our own tasting panel. Fancy giving it a try? Just ask us.

Great food and giving people opportunities

De Pezerik wants to be more than just a place where you can enjoy good food. We also want to create opportunities for people who find it more difficult to find their place in the job market. Ali started with us as a sous-chef and has since grown into a valued and permanent member of our team.
